Major Polish Boost (or not...) Version 01-4-3
Over the beginning of the weekend, I decided to rapidly implement some forms of polish. While the changes are more obvious at first glance, it is only the beginning of a long journey towards refinement.
More sounds:
As a rough polish move, I added more sounds that match multiple actions, such as breaking a sea urchin, spawning, and eating a small fry, player and opponent
Small fry visual signals:
Several testers have pointed out that there are cheap hits when players are assaulted by opponents. Thankfully there are visual cues on the various states of small fries:
When Hit, small fries flash in colors to signify temporary invincibility in hopes of preventing quick cheap hits.
As the small fries are about to recover, a more slow flash appears so players know when small fries restore to normal size.
Finally, the obvious changes:
Title Screen
As you noticed, the logo is present, which supposed to mimic the fish turning with the tail being emphasized. Additionally, the text are deliberately curved to give the idea of fish bending. As an outline, it is functional. However, it will require plenty of iterations before it is totally polished.
How to Play
Finally, added a how to play in its barest form. At least players might get a better idea on the rules, especially with visuals on the right side that emphasizes rules described by text on the left side.
If I could invest more time into making a replay system that keeps track of both player and AI systems, then it might be possible to make an attract mode. Alternatively, I could make a procedural player controls that can accomplish a similar feat.
Here is the video showing the latest update in action:
This latest update Makes the following changes:
